| The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) expects to launch a new tender for the container terminal project located on the east bank of the Canal at Corozal. The new tender is expected to be issued mid-2018. This is the second attempt to tender the project, after the first tender issue was declared void in March of this year due to a lack of bids.
The principal plans of the project included the construction of a 2,081-linear-meter dock, a warehouse, a container yard and offices within a 120-hectare area owned by the Panama Canal. Among the aspects that have been recommended by the involved parties is the evaluation of a second face of the project as an option for the future, to not have a large exit investment, and little by little increase the pace of the project. Following the projections, the development of the terminal would inject the economy with an investment worth USD 1,350 million and generate 2100 direct jobs during the two construction phases that were raised in the initial project. |
